Drought!

It has become very evident up here that we are in severe drought. I'm not sure when we last had any measurable rain but it has been atleast a month. The ground is so dry that if we get lightning we will have fires. We had a little cell come through just north of Grand Marais and we had three fires. We were lucky enough to find them quick and take action so we've kept them all small. Through out the Superior National Forest we've had 43 fires this year 16 of them were this month. That doesn't include the fires on state land nearby which we helped the DNR on. We also are still trying to help the western states with there fires while keeping enough people here to work. Right now my boss is gone so I've been stuck in the office as Duty Officer. Basically I'm in charge of are districts resources and assign different resources to cover various fires and preposition other resources for potential new fires. It's real challenging right now since have limited resources due to both budget cuts and western mobilizations.

Anyway not much going on besides work. Theresa spent a few days in Michigan staffing a helocopter and now is in Ely on the helo. I've been spending most of my time at work on a 14 day on and 1 day off schedule. So today is my one mandatory day off. I'm just catching up on stuff around the house and relaxing. The nice thing about the lack a rain is that I don't have to mow the lawn....

We are planning on having a week off at the end of the month since Theresa's brother should be retruning from his 6 month deployment to Africa. Everybody getting pretty excited about that so we'll have to put work aside for a few days.

I don't have any recent pics to post but here are a couple from the 2-hour Lake Superior cruise that we took a couple weeks ago.
